The Centre’s Catalysts series shines a light on the diverse organisations, from tenants and innovators to collaborators and members, who fuel our ecosystem here at iAero.
We explore the unique capabilities and expertise they bring, demonstrating the collective power that makes our Centre a hub of opportunity and growth. Their success is our success, and their contributions are the reason to join our vibrant community and support the growth of the aerospace, advanced manufacturing and engineering sectors in Somerset.
Next in the series is AVoptics.
AVoptics is a specialist manufacturer of advanced harsh environment solutions including high-performance harnessing and connectivity for demanding environments, system and rig builds, free space optical technology, and photonics research.

Andrew Lee, Managing Director of AVoptics, commented: “AVoptics has a strong focus on quality, reliability, and innovation. We support a wide range of sectors, including aerospace, defence, and industrial applications. Our expertise spans custom cable assemblies, ruggedised fibre systems, and precision optical components designed to meet strict performance and environmental standards.”
Key Projects & Successes
AVoptics has built a reputation for successfully delivering complex and mission-critical projects. This includes supporting the build of cable assemblies for Leonardo helicopters, in addition to General Dynamics, and Team Ineos with a fibre optic sensing system.
AVoptics has recently expanded into new markets and sectors, as evidenced through a first free space optics sale into the US. Furthermore, the AVoptics team is developing market-leading free space optical systems for defence and civil applications.

AVoptics and iAero
iAero provides specialist resources, and facilities that support AVoptics to develop and grow as a company. AVoptics has recently been supported by iAero in providing a live drone flight demonstration on the Leonardo airfield to demonstrate a low Size, Weight and Power data link from a drone to a
base station located on the iAero building.

Andrew said further: “By working in partnership, iAero helps ensure AVoptics can continue to deliver innovative solutions, strengthen customer offerings, and expand into new opportunities with confidence. The iAero Centre also provides a great networking opportunity with other SMEs and organisations in the area helping to foster the spirit of innovation.”
